Programs and Activities

CHECKMATES

CheckMates is a telephone reassurance program consisting of older adult volunteers making weekly phone calls to other older adults who may be isolated, homebound or lonely.  Through our trained volunteers and social workers, we are able to connect those CheckMate recipients with additional support and community resources in order to help them remain independent and in their own homes.  Through CheckMates, volunteers and participants develop phone relationships that have lasted for years.

J CAFE

The J Cafe provides lunch to older adults Monday through Friday from 11 am to 1 pm.  Volunteers are there to provide assistance, support and socialization to our participants so they feel comfortable and appreciated.  Other responsibilities include managing the J Cafe to make sure the utensils, plates, napkins and beverages are in full supply. Volunteers range in age from 15 to 85+.

SUMMER FOOD
SERVICE PROGRAM

This is an inter-generational program during the summer, Monday through Friday. It brings together people of several generations for a planned craft activity and then provides a nutritious meal to children. Volunteers participate in the planning of activities, as well as the set up & organization of the food service.

ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Additional volunteer opportunities include The Advisory Council, Health and Wellness programs, and volunteer-led educational programs and discussions.  Our volunteers consist mostly of older adults who are already very active in our programs.  However, several of our volunteers are high school and college students. One of the wonderful benefits of our volunteer opportunities are the connections that our volunteers make every day with our older adult participants.
