Business and Operations Manager
Position Summary:
Responsible for core business services related to program supports for the Division of Children, Youth and Family (CYF) inclusive of the summer Day Camp program (James & Rachel Levinson Day Camp). Core responsibilities include: program and Day Camp registrations, Day Camp transportation, hiring and onboarding support of part time and seasonal personnel, management of vendor contracts, management of the Division’s technology infrastructure, compliance standards associated with the PA Department of Human Services, and accreditation standards of the American Camp Association. Serves as Day Camp Office Manager during the summer months.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works with JCC Registrar to complete program registrations for all JCC Day Camps, Clubhouse afterschool program and all other Children, Youth and Family Division programs within the JCC’s client relationship management system, establishing payment plans and securing required camper documentation, as appropriate.
- Works in partnership with the agency’s Human Resources department to ensure adherence with all relevant PA Department of Human Services and JCC required documentation in keeping with policies and procedures.
- Updates, distributes, and ensures the timely return of all camper and staff required documents.
- Assists with managing CYF/Day Camps annual budget by establishing appropriate business practices in the areas of purchasing, accounts payable, vendor contracts and petty cash and pays careful attention to potential cost overruns.
- Administers contracts with external service providers, including, but not limited to, food services, transportation, program vendors, etc.
- Collects necessary documents required of specialty camp vendors, including, but not limited to, clearances, proof of insurance, etc.
- Manages all transportation requirements for James and Rachel Levinson Day Camp participants, including buses.
- Implements and supports all JCC action items identified within the 3-year Strategic Plan for James and Rachel Levinson Day Camp.
- Maintains all components of Day Camp’s technology infrastructure inclusive of hardware and connectivity.
- Ensures compliance with PA Department of Human Services, federal and local regulating agencies, as well as the American Camp Association standards and accreditation processes.
- Capacity to work with a broad range of people.
- Team player, yet ability to work independently.
- Works effectively with other key JCC departments to provide effective and efficient service delivery.

Qualifications:

Fitness Floor Staff
The Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, located in Squirrel Hill, is currently looking for part time Fitness Floor staff to join our team. Current available shifts include evenings and weekends.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure all equipment is in working order: inspect equipment and power sources/cords for defects or malfunctions, utilize the Equipment Maintenance Log to communicate resolved and unresolved issues. Report any issues via established protocol and resources.
- Clean equipment daily: clean the floor, particularly under and around cardiovascular equipment; wipe down equipment pads and grips with disinfectant; dust off or wipe down all exterior surfaces of strength training equipment.
- Re-rack all weights, bars, and attachments to maintain a neat, organized workout area.
- Provide quality customer service to our members: welcome all to the Fitness Center, provide encouragement/assistance in achieving fitness goals, answer questions, take messages, assist with emergencies, provide members with information as needed, perform adjustments to TVs and viewing screens, and educate members about policies/procedures.
- Must be knowledgeable about all safety and emergency procedures for the equipment and for the JCC. Ensure member safety while on duty.
- Learn, follow, and enforce all JCC rules, policies and procedures. Follow departmental dress code policy.
- Be familiar with programs and equipment available at the JCC; share this knowledge with customers.
- Promptly open or close Fitness Center in accordance with established procedure.
- Attend staff and departmental meetings as required.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification is required. Training provided if necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service is required.
- Must be able to effectively interact with a diversity of individuals.
- Prior experience in repair and overhaul of fitness equipment is preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in working with electronic equipment which includes: televisions, cardio theater systems and viewing screens.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Must demonstrate the ability to follow projects to completion while keeping stakeholders informed along the process.
- Physical effort is required to perform daily duties: lifting and moving weights up to 50 lbs, bending, squatting, spotting, sitting, walking, and reaching

Counselor After-School Program
The Clubhouse afterschool program provides care for children grades K-5 through fun and engaging activities and homework support after a day at school. Our program is focused on ensuring the mental, physical and emotional wellbeing of children by providing meaningful opportunities to engage with peers and choose activities based on their own interest. Activities include, but are not limited to, sports, STEM, arts and crafts, science, cooking, woodworking and more. Aquatics Specialist
Position Summary:
Responsible for assisting the Aquatics Director with all aspects of the aquatics program which includes: Learn to Swim Classes, Aquatics Exercise classes, Competitive Swim Teams, Life guarding and related administrative duties. Maintains varied summer assignment.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides input into the development of department goals and objectives.
- Instructs Learn to Swim Classes (Infants through Advanced), and Aquatic Exercise Classes, as needed, including private lessons.
- Provides lifeguarding coverage and oversight at facility pools.
- Remains on-call for all coverage and emergency situations for Aquatics Staff.
- Monitors and maintains cleanliness, safety, and maintenance for facility pools.
- Provides 32 hours of direct service per week, to include 2.5 hours private swim lessons, 12 hours Group lessons to JCC and 20 hours of Lifeguarding. Additional private swim lessons may be conducted, outside of assigned work schedule.

Lifeguard - South Hills and South Hills Day Camp, Summer 2024
South Hills Day Camp is located in Scott Township. Owned and operated by the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, South Hills Day Camp is a co-ed day camp with an emphasis on teambuilding, developing positive values, independence and premiere programming and activities. General Responsibility:
To guard our pool, instruct our campers, and lead emergency procedures as part of working on the pool and lifeguard team.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Attend staff training week and instruct general counselors in their roles and responsibilities while at the pool
- Teach swimming to campers of varying abilities ages 5-10
- Serve as an on-duty lifeguard on a daily basis
- Assist with documentation regarding camper’s swim levels and addressing concerns related to swimming progress
- Provide social/emotional support to campers in the water using positive behavior support techniques
- Participate in pre-camp trainings June 17-21
- Ensure all campers and staff know and understand all pool safety rules
- Assist with ensuring cleanliness of pool facility and maintenance upkeep of equipment
- Fulfill opening and closing duties in the pool area s assigned
Additional Responsibilities:

The position of Camp Nurse has been established to provide medical assistance to the camp community while Camp is in session. The duties assigned to the Camp Nurses are meant as a guideline to establish a high quality of care. Qualities such as high reliability, attention to detail, ability to follow directions and a willingness to learn are vital to this position. A prerequisite of this position is a current NP, RN or LPN license by the agreed upon start date. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Nurses will be able to work a variety of 8, 10, and 12 hour shifts.
Responsibilities/Expectations:
- Reviewing medical information for all campers and staff
- Triaging campers during our daily sick calls
- Assessing health/injury risks during the camp program
- Working with the Camp Doctor in diagnosing illnesses and treating injuries
- Supervising campers in the health center if they are unable to participate in the camp program.
- Recording medication distribution to Campers that are handed out prior to meals.
- Assisting in keeping the infirmary clean and sanitized
- Shopping for medical supplies/medications (as needed) to keep the health center fully supplied.
- Preparation of medications for daily distribution.
- Answering parent phone calls about the health of their campers
- Other duties that may arise to increase the efficiency of the infirmary and/or treatment of campers
